Vijay Yanamadala, M.D., M.B.A.

I was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in California before coming to Boston at the age of 17 to start college. I have called New England home ever since, with the exception of one year I spent in Seattle during fellowship. I live with my wife, Vidya, and son, Rishi, in Westport, CT. One of my passions is international spine surgical missions, and I have traveled to India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Mongolia to offer free care to patients with spinal disorders. I am an avid gardener and also love to hike on the many trails in Fairfield County in my free time.

I serve as the Medical Director of Spine Quality and Surgical Optimization at Hartford Healthcare. I specialize in the treatment of patients with spinal deformities, including scoliosis and kyphosis, reconstructive surgery, and revision surgeries for flat back syndrome and failed back syndrome. In addition to this, I also treat spine trauma, spinal tumors, and spinal vascular diseases. As the Medical Director of Spine Quality, I focus on delivering optimal care for patients with spinal disorders with a goal of optimizing patient outcomes and avoiding unnecessary surgery. My work has been published in over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles related to the use of multidisciplinary processes and new techniques to improve the safety of efficacy of spine surgery and nonsurgical treatments.

I received the William H. Sweet Young Investigator Award in 2017 from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons for my work on improving the safety and efficacy of spine surgery. I also received the Charles Kuntz Scholar Award from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Section on Spinal Disorders as well as awards from the North American Spine Society for this work. I am a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and is a candidate member of the Scoliosis Research Society. I have also been certified by the Safety in Spine Surgery Project (S3P) for my commitment to safety in spine surgery.
